The third Asian Lepidoptera Conservation Symposium was held in Coimbatore, India, 25-29 October 2010
and hosted by the Department of Zoology, Bharathiar University
in collaboration with South Asian Invertebrate Specialist Group (SAsISG) IUCN SSC,
Zoo Outreach Organization (ZOO) &
Wildlife Information Liaison Development (WILD)s

Also included are three of the papers presented that were later published in the Journal of Threatened Taxa.
The Theme for the symposium was “Local community conservation meeting Asian Lepidoptera conservation needs",
with presentations (oral and poster) given and discussed on the following key areas:
1. investigate the use of iconic / endemic flagship Lepidoptera species to promote habitat conservation through community involvement
2. assess priority areas / communities for Lepidoptera conservation initiatives at the local level that has global conservation impact
3. provide tools for species status assessment
4. train participants in moth and butterfly identification skills
5. explore aspects of moth and butterfly conservation ecology, management and needs
