The Erebidae is the largest known family of Lepidoptera, with some 25,000 species described and many more, particularly from the Neotropical region to be discovered and described. At the moment, there are around 490 species in at least 16 subfamilies known from Hong Kong.
This page is an index to the photo galleries of erebid moth subfamilies on this website.
Each link leads to a web page listing the species of moth found in Hong Kong from that erebid subamily. Each photo therein links to a species information page containing details about that species.
Only taxa that occur in Hong Kong are included. Prior to works published between 2006 and 2012, Erebidae comprised groups of taxa split between families Arctiidae, Lymantriidae and Noctuidae, though molecular phylogenies have clearly demonstrated that these families were mis-classified, and the familiar names are now reclassified. The list order is based upon Zahiri et al. (2011) as followed by Holloway (2011).
