Hong Kong Moths

Scranciidae & Notodontidae found in Hong Kong

This page is an index to the 4 Scranciidae & 30 Notodontidae species of Hong Kong. Each link (once active) leads to species information page containing details about that species.
The Scranciidae were promoted to the rank of family in 2023 by St Laurent et al., who found, using various molecular methods, that this group of elongate forewing and slender bodied noctuoids were sister to all other noctuoid families.
Note that the subfamily and genus arrangement follows Schintlmeister's global list (2013), now outdated. The arrangement of Kobayashi and Nonaka (2016), based on molecular phylogeny, differs.
Work remains ongoing to find a more accurate and natural phylogeny within Notodontidae.
